Ritualistic Female Mutilation
[ send me this paper ]
A 9 page essay on the practice of female genital mutilation considered traditional in many parts of Africa. Helene Shugart asserts that asserts that that patriarchy is the theory and rape is the practice. Renee Heberle questions whether there is a fundamental fragileness in male dominance that has been obscured by the construction of a political strategy designed to call attention to womens suffering and therefore, further reinforces the attitudes of masculine-based domination. Both opinions are disturbing and thought provoking. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
