Comparison and Contrast of Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods Including Quality, Credibility, Reliability, Validity and Analysis
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 20 page paper comparing and contrasting qualitative and quantitative research methods. Qualitative research methods are considerably different from those of quantitative research methods. Qualitative research methods are considered to be more dynamic, interactive and holistic in their approach than quantitative methods which are considered more deductive in their reasoning, objective in their observations, more defined and static in their collection, analysis and reporting. While qualitative methods provide for more narrative and detailed reports of certain phenomenon, quantitative methods allow for the study of larger populations and therefore can allow for more generalizations about a phenomenon. Whichever method is used for a particular study, researchers agree that the method should be appropriate for the subject being studied. Largely, quantitative methods are used in the physical sciences whereas studies in the social sciences lean toward qualitative methods or a combination of both research methods. Both methods are also supported by different aspects of quality, credibility, reliability and validity throughout their methodology.

Computer Modeling Is Valid In Science And Can Be Considered A "Realistic" Model To A Certain Degree
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Technology has changed the face of humanity in ways that are sometimes incalculable. From the time of the scientific revolution, the extent to which technological advances have modified the tried and true ways of myriad operations has been felt in innumerable ways. Introducing such revolutionary concepts as were developed during the scientific revolution truly transformed the way in which the world operated. So many inventions changed how people lived their lives that it was not difficult to leave behind the archaic in favor of the new and improved. The social and political influence these discoveries had upon any individual country was no different than what was experienced throughout the rest of the world. Such dynamic inventions and breakthroughs affected the world's societies in much the same way; their very distinction proved to be a significant gesture toward future growth. When one considers the notion of computer modeling as a valid science to a certain degree, it is by way of this past period of enlightenment that one can truly accept this as fact. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Concepts and Analysis of Stephen J. Goulds Essay Dollys Fashion and Louiss Passion
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 4 page paper discussing Goulds essay Dollys Fashion and Louiss Passion. Anthropologist Stephen J. Gould questions in his essay Dollys Fashion and Louiss Passion (2000) mans presumed need to always present components within the world in categories and dichotomies. He argues that human life is filled with such foibles and conflicts as firstly our need to create order in a complex world begets our worst mental habit: dichotomy and second that many deep questions about our loves and livelihood, and fates of nations, truly have no answers. One of the most prevalent dichotomies which seems to annoy Gould the most and which leads man down many false paths is that of the nature versus nurture debate; or the genetic versus environmental sources of human abilities and behaviors. The fact this question is always an either-or dichotomy verges on the nonsensical according to Gould. He then proceeds to highlight two particular modern readings in which the scientific perspective (nature) is presented but the environmental (nurture) perspective is ignored because of todays preference for the scientific theory. Despite the current trend of today, Gould and some educators do not ignore the centuries of debate which have also discussed the nurture component and more importantly for Gould, readers should be aware that this debate (and others) should not be considered as either-or.

Content Analysis and the Authority of Quantification
[ send me this paper ]
This 12 page paper considers the issue of the use of content analysis for studies of science and technology presented in the mass media and suggests that this type of analysis reveals by the choice itself an unnecessary attachment to the apparent authority of quantification. This paper
helps to critically discuss this proposition, especially as it relates
to the impact of quantitative research designs and increasing support
for qualification over content analysis in studies of science and
technology. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
