Language and Abstract Thought: Meaningful Conversation about a God Who Transcends Creation?
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page address of the philosophical dilemma of whether or not we can talk meaningfully of a God who transcends creation if language is a part of creation. Questions the innateness of language and the applicability of that innateness to the topic of our own creation and the existence of God. Compares language in animals and mankind and concludes there are definitive differences in the ability of the two to have meaningful conversations about such highly abstract concepts as God and His existence. It is the ability to translate our mental experiences into words which gives humans the capability of abstract thought and allows us to have meaningful philosophic conversation about God even though God transcends creation. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Luther and the Reformation
[ send me this paper ]
(6 pp.)Man was taught to be fearful in his faith.
He was not to expect a long or happy life, but
was to endure until that time that he met his
Redeemer and achieved a heavenly reward. What
started to creep into this belief system was the
thought that if you, had a little extra money and
were willing to buy one or more Church sanctioned
pieces of paper called "indulgences," it was
possible to shorten the stay in Purgatory, the
holding-tank of heaven, and move on into the
realms of Glory in a more prompt fashion. If it
helped the coffers of the Church, that was a double
blessing. With the good of man's soul in mind,
confession became an obligation, rather than
voluntary. Pilgrimages were encouraged; fire and
brimstone was preached. Luther felt that the
Church was extracting too high of a toll on its
members and registered his opposition to such
activities. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Mahatma Gandhi: The Influence Of The Bhagavad Gita And Krishna On His Ideology And Teachings
[ send me this paper ]

His efforts to ease physical and emotional pain, accept people as they are and make one's existence that much more tolerable have become mantras for myriad people. His ideological and teaching influences were significant Krishna and the Bhagavad Gita yet his influence upon the world was just as strong. Even so, he never claimed to be anything more than a simple man with normal abilities no different than any other human being; however, he noted that the primary difference was he put his abilities to work for him and his people, while most merely accept their lot in life without appealing to a higher spirituality.
