Willy Loman: Accidental Infidel
[ send me this paper ]
(8 pp) When an extramarital affair is discovered, often the couple will undergo a crisis. This may not sound surprising. However, this crisis can be the most difficult part of the issue. The "injured" spouse may feel emotionally abandoned by the other spouse. She or he may feel a loss of her/his image of marriage, of her/his marriage. "A joint sense of loss as well as the expected guilt and defensiveness." Recurrent and persistent thoughts about the situation can sometimes interfere with a person's ability to function. Individuals may have difficulty working, taking care of themselves and/or their families, etc. when such grief and reflection plague them. Few of any of these principles apply to the salesman, Willy Loman, or do they? Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Willy Loman: Accidental Infidel.
[ send me this paper ]
(7 pp) Usually when an extramarital affair is discovered, the couple will undergo a crisis, which may evolve into the most difficult part of the issue. The "injured" spouse may feel emotionally abandoned by the other spouse, or she/ he may even feel a loss of her/his image of marriage. One or the other of the partners may have difficulty functioning due to the stress. None of these things happen in Miller's drama, Death of a Salesman. Willy Loman, as the ultimate salesman, has been "selling himself" for years. This discussion looks at the result of Willy's "personality and charm" leading to his "accidental" affairs. Suggestions, from a psychological point of view, are made as to the "why" of his actions. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Death Of A Salesman And The Entertainer: Compare/Contrast
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. The struggle to achieve; the desire to be accepted; the will to continue forward even when all previous efforts have manifested in failure these are the elements that form a common bond between Arthur Millers Death of a Salesman and John Osbornes The Entertainer. Clearly, the drive for social, financial and emotional success represents the very foundation of these two plays; even though they are set in different times, places and circumstances, the respective protagonists still mirror each others desperation to reach a social status that inevitably eludes them both. No additional sources cited.
