Capital Punishment: Americans Are Ambivalent
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. The issue of capital punishment is, perhaps, one of the most hotly contested of all contemporary controversial issues; while some believe that one who kills should pay his debt to society with his own life, others contend that two wrongs -- in the case of executing a murderer -- do not make a right. The writer offers both sides of the debate, as well as illustrates how supporters are now outweighing opponents in the twenty-first century. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

Capital Punishment: Overview And Opposition
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. From drugs to kidnapping and self-defense to first-degree murder, virtually no felon is free of the potential verdict of the death sentence. White-collar crime is just as vulnerable to a decision for capital punishment as is one who bludgeons his victim with his bare hands. The
severity of the crime is not so much in the trail of blood left behind as it is in the overall aftermath. Inasmuch as capital punishment is such an intensely explosive issue, supporters and opponents alike do their best to persuade the
opposition of their viewpoint. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

Capitalism, Victimization, and the Criminal Justice System: The Ethical Implications of Allowing Criminals to Profit From Their Crimes
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page observation that capitalism can be linked to victimization and the criminal justice system in a number of diverse ways. Case Of Jeremiah Mearday: Conflict Theory
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. The case of Jeremiah Mearday, where two Chicago police officers were invested for wrongly beating an eighteen-year-old African American man, illustrates the extent to which the conflict theory has overtaken any ethical aspects of the city's approach to law enforcement. Inasmuch as this particular criminal theory espouses how one's behavior is expressed through one's "self-interests in a material world of threat and violence" (Collins, 1974, pp. 56-61), white officers James Comito and Matthew Thiel of the Grand Central District took it upon themselves to violate Mearday's civil rights without provocation. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. There are many answers to the question that asks why seemingly "normal" people commit such unthinkable crimes as murder. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

Causes And Effects Of Fatigue In Police Officers
[ send me this paper ]
A 15 page paper. Fatigue in our nation's police officers is a very serious problem. This essay explores this problem. The writer begins with newspaper headlines that illustrate the effects of sleep deprivation among police officers. The literature review is divided into two sections: the many different causes of fatigue and the effects of fatigue. These sections first discuss the issues in general and then, as they specifically relate to police officers. Law enforcement officers sleep a good deal less than the average person, leading to persistent fatigue, which, in turn, leaves these officers less able to deal with the everyday events in their lives. The last section of this essay discusses what some departments have done to combat this problem and also offers recommendations for changing this dreadful condition among our police officers. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
