Judy Yung's "Unbound Voices" And Vicki L. Ruiz's "From Out Of The Shadows": Cultural Assimilation
[ send me this paper ]
9 pages in length. A collection of personal essays in Judy Yung's Unbound Voices and an account of civil rights issues in Vicki L. Ruiz's From Out of the Shadows effectively illustrates how each author is quite successful at telling tales of cultural struggle, immigration, racism & discrimination and the inherent commitment that accompanies assimilation. In portraying the characterization of these various bonds and relationships, the authors' quintessential components draw together the very basic qualities that exist within the confines of Mexican-American and Asian-American cultures. While there are, indeed, a handful of similarities with regard to the two very diverse concepts of conventional culture and mainstreaming into another, each author illustrates how there exist many more differences that serve to cause friction in direct relation to respect for one's natural heritage, with particular focus upon women. Learning of Self
[ send me this paper ]

learning, or deciding who we are, or who we want
to be, we usually have to take into account how
others perceive us. Naturally the first who do
that are our parents. We have that problem
presented in the readings that we have been given:
Amy Tann's "Two Kinds," and Danzy Senna's
"The Mulatto Millennium." These two works will be
used as a basis for the "learning of self."

Legitimacy of Chinas Legal System and the Strength of the
Chinese Communist Party
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the facts
that as China modernizes and becomes a more accepted partner in
global enterprises and market opportunities, the Western world is
more carefully evaluating the society that has evolved in modern
China. The debates surrounding issues as varied as trade
normalization, human rights violations, and whether or not China
has any hope of hosting the Olympics, those in the debate
repeatedly ask whether or not China has really changed (or is
changing). Seeing how the Chinese government reacts to its own
citizens who criticize it suggests that beneath the facade of
international business, the totalitarian behemoth still lurks.
In addition, the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) remains firmly in
control of virtually all social, judicial, and political
occurrences in the nation. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
